Summary
So the ending was really, really , really good. But at the same time I expected something a more shocking. The end was basically they found her mothers body. She is already dead and they believe the cause of her death was getting distracted while driving and end up driving off the road. The good thing about this ending is it not the typical ending where the mother was found safe and sound and they lived happily ever after. So the ending was not predictable basically. Another good thing about the ending is Ashely drove past the place several times where her mother was found dead. And what makes it good is the fact that sometimes when you are trying to figure out something you don't even have to go to far away places or even do a scavenger hunt in another town. Its like the ending is saying you don't have to go far sometimes the answer is right near you or in fact in front of your face. There will be times when you won't recognize it until it's brought to your attention. But with this situation it really hurts to be driving past your dead mother and not know that she was there the whole time.
Quote
"But I can't hate her for it. Whatever she did , she always loved me. I am still, and always , her daughter." (Bowsher 312)
Reaction
The reason I picked this quote is it is really powerful. The daughter is saying no matter what my mother did all that is important is I know she loves me and I love her. Therefore i will always be her daughter. And with this quote you can see how much Ashely has changed throughout the book. She started off with I hate my mother why would she do this to me to I love her no matter what. I know she tried her best to make me happy and I realize that's why I love her. Another thing you can recognize with this quote is how stubborn Ashely is. Readers will make the assumption that Ashely is the time of person where something bad has to happen in order for her to realze how lucky she was. For example the saying when you loose everything then you will realze how grateful you were therefore be grateful of what you have now.
