Reaction based on other persons' review on Chronicles of a Death Foretold

Based on Ian Peters's little paragraph he wrote on amazon  in February 22 2011 called "Intersting Plot, Poor Writting" I have to say to some degree that i agree with him.

In Ian's article he how he enjoys reading stories that deal with murder but he wishes that the author wrote more so the author can go a little more slowly and explain things better in the story. I somewhat agree I say this because there was times were I was confused with the characters because there was so many. Plus there was moments when i was confused of what was happening. For example the transition when people would say what they saw but they were in a  different point of view. In the beginning when I was reading the second point of view I said to myself why am I reading the same thing that only has little changes. It was not obvious to me that is was people saying there point of view.

But what I think is the the author should take out some point of views and explain the story like the little details more clearly. Like there are still some parts where I am confused. For example did Santiago take Angela's virginity or did she just say his name to her twin brothers because she wants to cover up for her ex-husband's mom?

Anyways this book is good in general although beware there may be some confusing parts.

Chornicle of a Death Foretold By: Gabriel Garcia Marquez From page 3 to the end of the book (120)

Summary
A couple named Angela Vicario and Bayardo San Roman got married. How they met is an interesting story. Baryardo San Roman was visiting he told a couple of people that he is on vacation and doing a little business stuff. When he was taking a nap one afternoon when he woken up from his window he saw two women walking together. It was a mother and daughter. He liked the daughter and he said to his friend I am going to marry her (Angela Vicario). Long story short  they did not last long. After the wedding and the ceremonial thing afterwords he went to the room he gave his mother an order to beat his wife. Why? because when he was out drinking with friends he found out his wife is not a virgin or his mother found out and told him.( not very clear got confused at that part) Angela did not want to tell him that she was not a virgin because she knew that that will cause problems and if word spread then there is a percentage that she will not get married. Before the wedding Angela got together with a group of women and they tried how to figure out how to trick her future husband into thinking he took her virginity. They got a plan then Angela would  stain the bed sheets without him knowing. Then the next morning she would hang out the bed sheet on the clothes line outside to dry.(That was the tradition to do in that area.) After Angela got beat her twin brothers Pedro and Pablo Vicari asked her who did this to you? Her response was Santiago Nasar. Santiago Nasar is the main character in this story, he is the protagonist. So people started hearing about how the twins are going to kill Santiago. People did not tell Santiago because they thought it was all talk and they aren't going to do anything. Word spread and everyone knows that the twins are going to kill Santiago except Santiago. Many people got hurt along with Santiago who died. Plus the twins who succeeded in killing Santiago got hurt.

Quote
" She only took the time necessary to say the name. She looked for it in the shadows, she found it at first sight among the many, many easily confused names from this world and the other she nailed it to the wall with her well aimed dart like a butterfly with no will whose sentence has always been written. Santiago Nasar she said." (Marquez 47)

Reaction
When I was reading this book there was moments were I was confused. I then noticed that the was saying the same story over but in different point of views. I don't understand why would Angela blame an innocent man. He did not even do anything to her . Why blame him then? Plus the characters in the book were acting stupid. If you someone is going to kill someone else but not sure at least warn the person tell them to be careful. Another thing I still don't understand is why is Angela still writing letters to her ex- husband? Like his mom just beat you and after several years you still want him?  Like he returned her to her family that is a dishonored wife/bride.Alright she knows that she was stupid in the past and that is what caused her this problem. But at the same time she is the one that is mostly responsible for their actions. I also feel like this is a short story and they had different point of views that was not needed. Overall this book is not the best but at the same time it is not bad in my opinion.

Water for Elephants pgs.260- THE END OF THE BOOK!!!!!!!!!

SUMMARY
Marlena and Jacob end up confronting eachother that they like each other. They both decided to run away together but. But if you remmeber from my other post Marlena is married. Marlena decides to DIVORSE August. Of curse August being himself didn't take it to well. When he found out he was mad because he knew thay she liked Jacob and she prefered him over August. There was moments where he would still try to talk to her and tackling her and try to fore the marriage ring on her finger. He would yell you will always be mine. But before Jacob and Marlena can run off they have to wait till they get rid of Camel. Camael is a man that works with the circus but got really sick because he drinks a lot of liquoir but he dron't the wrng type of liquior that was not actually good for you and now he can't work any more. So jacob before decied to take him in and Jacob's friend Kinko ( they both share the same cart) decided to get intouch with a family memeber or Camel because they can't leave him on the trian when Marelena and Jacob decided to leave. And Kinko can't watch after Camel because Kinko decided to join Marlena and Jacob. So there is  no one else to watch Camel. And if  Uncle Al sees him and see that he is not able to work all he is going to do is bring in some guys to toss his body off the trian. Plus i noted that there is a little forshadowing in the book because in the book it started off with a rampage that ahppened at the circus and the book ended like that. then led him him being an old man now and how he is talking to a young man who is incharge of a cicrus now. And the young boy decided to hid Jacob and let Jcob work at the ticket booth.

Quote
"It's like harlie told the cop. For this old man , this is home. (Gruen 331)

Reaction
I love this book. I love the ending I love everything about ti. When something bad ahppens you get so into that you catch yourelf saying to yourself no don't do that. This quote i would say is one of the most improtant quotes. Because it's so true and it's so nice for a younge man to take in a old man and give him a job and work for something that the old man knows a lot about like the place in general. And when I read this quote it really touched me because the younge man understands that this is what Jacob is meant for. It really is his home. to be honest I think my summaries aren't that good and I say this because inorder for someone to write a good description of this book the description would go on and on and on. The book has so many things that goes on and there is so much to you can discuss about. I highly recommend this book. I can't even describe how fantastic it is well at least i think it is. by the way I somewhat felt bad for August cause the love of his life left him but then he deserves it cause he would boss her around and hit her etc. I think how Knko and Jacob got in touch with Camel's fanily membrs is really nice it shows that they care.

Water for Elephants pg 130-260 By the way this is two post combined as one big one

summary
The circus member finds out that the their boss Uncle Al paid 2,000 "clams" for a bull. Back then they use to call elephants bulls for some reason. And August found out that the Uncle Al told August that he is responsible for the bull like he is now the owner although he did not pay for te elephant. Plus Agust is really anger with his boss because he heard from anothe rperson that was selling the elephant that supposdly the elephant is really stupid and doesn't do anything. August and hi wife plus Jcabo end up going out all toget her and haing dinner in other words bonding. Jacob is still having feelings for August's wife. And the start actually doing things like Jacob wants to kiss her and at times he is tempted. But Jacob can't seem to control himself  becaus ehe did end up kissing her and August later on realizes that there is somrthing going on between his wife and Jacob. So ther was a moment where Jacob and August got in a physical fight and it got bloody plus later on he went after his wife and had a physical fight with her too but the figt with his wife is not as bad as the one he had with Jacob. Jacob's face is like bruised up and purple and blue by the discriptions in the book where Augut's wife just has a black eye and only a couple of brusies. Jacob is staring to become more noticable to people in the circus. Before he was just a new worker but now he is recognized as a vet which back then they were like wow he is a vet that is good. He knows his stuff and supposdly has money to go to college and becoma a vet.  OH My GOD Jacob finds out that the elephant understands polish. Becuase the elephant went to a lady's garden and started eating her vegtables and a man say it and tried to get the elephant out and Jacob heard the guy talk polish to the elephant and the elephant did all the things the man told him to do. That is why before the elephnat did not respond to things whe  August spoke to him in english. The elephant does not undersand it. the sad thing though is August has like hit the elephant repeadlty like abused him because he got mad because the elephant was not doing anything or responding to anything August was telling her to do. The elephants name is Roise. nd it's good that Jacob found ou that the elpephant understands polish because Jacob speaks and understands polish.  Later on Jacob teaches August some words in polish so he can train the elephant and get him into the routine of how everything is suppose to go . The elephant still gets herself in trouble though sometimes. Like she stills food because she is hungry.

Qoute" And then the sweet shower of money starts- the sweet shower of money. Uncle Al is delirious, standing in the center of the hippodrome track with his arms and face raised even as coins bounce off his cheeks, nose, ad forehead. I think he may actually be crying>" (Gruen 237)

Reaction
I  love this book. There is drama to keep you intersted and there are fights and problems that make you want to scream no don't do it but then you realize that the characters can't actually hear you. But that is a good thing because that shows the book has your complete attention. I do not't like August like in order to hit an animal repeadtly because thet don't d what they are told is just too much. Likeit's an animal they don't understand everything. Plus he gets mad way too fast. As a friend he is goodbut he has his ups and downs just like everyone else. When I found out Roise can understand Polish i got so shocked like at that point I was aying to myself I want to talk to an animal that understands a differnt language. I tought that was soooooooooooooooooooooooooo cool. I never noticed how many problems there colud be in a circus like coming from a person that never been to a circus before I actually look forward to go see one and I most deffintly will compare i with the book. But then again this book took lace back then. Uncle Al is very self-fish all he cares about is himself and making money. Example the qoute above were he is just standing in the center as people throw money towards the enter of the circus.

Water for Elephants pg. 65-103

Summary
So the boss Uncle Al found out that in college Jacob was studying to become a vet. Now since Uncle Al knows that he defiantly want Jacob to keep on working with his circus. And not only that but Uncle Al wants to be known for having the best circus. And he is always trying to beat other circus groups. For example if another  circus group has 24 zebras Uncle Al is  going to try and get 24 zebras. But at the same time the animals Uncle Al has for his show is ... well some aren't in good condition. Uncle Al sometimes makes stupid decisions too for example when Uncle Al found out that Jacob was going to become a vet he said good we have one horse that is injured and if you don't fix him up and ready for the show then you can say goodbye to this job. Like Jacob already told Uncle Al there is nothing I can do his injury is too bad and there really isn't a cure yet. But did Uncle Al care? Nope. So the horse ended up dying and shockingly they feed the horde to the tigers. Why? Because the tigers ran out of food and they wouldn't mind eating a horse. They try to make everything use full. And Jacob is starting to develop feelings for August who is just his friend. Well he develops feelings for August's wife. An the bad thing is August is some what aggressive and very over protective over his wife.
Quote
" It's when the connective tissues between the hoof and the coffin bone are compromised and the coffin bone rotates toward the sole of the hoof." (Gruen 74)
Reaction
The above quote is the injury that the horse has. It sounds pain full  becaus the hoof is the horse's feet and this is happening to all of her hoofs. I do not like Uncle Al. I think his decisions are just him being selfish. He only cares about making money and to become number one for circuses. Like think about it Jacob can't do anything to the horse and you still going to say you have to do something or you can kiss your job goodbye. It doesn't make sense. And Jacob needs to be careful. He needs to control his feelings because if August sees or hears anything going on between his wife and his friend he is going to flip and who knows maybe get in a physical fight with him or his wife. My advise to him is be careful.

Water for Elephants by: Sara Gruen 1-65

Summary
This book is about a boy named Jacob who is in college and while he is in one of his classes he gets called out of the room. The reason why is because his parents have been in an accident. So he is left with nothing. He doesn't even have a home to go to because his family could not keep up with the mortgage bills so now the bank owns the house and everything else in it. So Jacob decides to hop on a train he didn't even finish taking his final exams nothing he just completely walked out of his college life. It just happens to be that the train he hopes on is a circus train. It's called Benzini Bros Most Spectacular Show on Earth. So he just ends up working for them. He has nothing else to do and he has no house to go to or some where else to live. In the beginining of the book it's an old man talking and later on you realize that the old man is Jacob. So the book has Dual Narrative voice.
Qoute
" I reach for the iron grab bar and fling myself upwar. My left foot and elbow hit first, and thenmy chin, which smashes onto the metal edging....... The noise is deafening , and my jawbone bangs rhythmically on the iron edging." (Gruen 25)
Reaction
When I read the first page I was laughing because the old man is funny. But then when the next chapter talkes about another person I start to make the connection that this is Jacob and that my book has dual narrative voice. When I read other people's comments about this book I noticed that a lot of people did not like the book but only one person did. and the book grabs my attention. So far it is not that bad.

Reaction

There was one quote used both in the movie and book its when she said " My name is Salmon like the fish, first name Susie." But the thing is I thought that the movie was goona start that was like the introduction but it didn't. another quote the movie and book used was"I remember being really small; too small to see over the edge of a table. There was a snow globe, and I remember the penguin who lived inside the globe. He was all alone in there, and I worried for him." And the ting that I liked was in the movie the father will tend to look at the snow globe after she got murdered and remembered his duaghter. Matter of fact that is how the movie started it was when Susie was young in a room with her father and they were looking into a snow globe and that is where the line comes from. " You're not supposed to look back, you're supposed to keep going." This was a quote that Holly Susie's friend said  to try and get Susie to get to the real part of heaven. Even though Susie liked the part she was in because not only the things she had and the things she colud do but because she got to look at her family from above. And the other heaven is mostly when you let go of your family and know that they are gonna be okay. Susie would have to fall into "the  light" as some people would say.

I wonder why mostly girls or womwn like this movie? Maybe because the main character is a girl and she tends to talk about how she liked a boy? But I think that the IMDb staff ratting is too high. Like i would give the movie about a 6.5 because of all the stuff the movie missed based on the book.

Reaction towards movie

When I saw the movie I was dissappionted. First of all the order that was made in was strange. And they took out sooooooooooo many things that were important in the book. Like the book had so many things in it and the movie even though it was two hours long I think that it was short compared with the facts that they had in the book. Like for example in the book there was a part where Susie spent time with the boy she liked in school. the movie didn't show that and that was improtant becuase in the book Susie mentioned it a lot. Another big thing that was missing was in the book at the end Ruth and Susie kind of switched places. That was also a big thing because Susie got to spend time with the boy she liked and he realized it wasn't Ruth anymore. It was Susie in Ruth's body. That wasn't in the movie also. I think that if I did not read the book but saw the movie I would like the movie but since I read the book I am not liking the movie that much.
Altough there was some good things about the movie like when Susie's pparents was talking to Mr. Harvey in the beginning when they all were at his garden and Susie was playing around with her camera they had some low angle shots that would have like a rose cover most of Mr. Harveys face. And also in the beginning when Mr. Harvey talked to Susie for the first time they had moments where you can tell that the camera was on a high crane. Tey wouls have close ups of Mr. Havrey's face and Susie. And with the close up you can see of Susie is feeing uncomfortable and wants to go home.

TheLovely Bones by: Alice Sebold pg. 200- end of the book 328

Summary
I can not believe that Susie's mom will leave her family and just go a separate way. In the book Susie's mom started having feeling for an officer and then she decides to leave her husband and children behind and go on with her own life. The parents did not get a divorce it's like they are having a break. Next thing you know a few weeks later Buckley went downstairs and got some of Susie's old clothes that the grandmother packed away because now the grandmother is living with her daughters husband (Susie's family) Anyways Buckley got some of Susie's old clothes and wanted to use it for an idea he had in mind about his garden and when the father saw what his son was doing he panicked. Buckley interestingly told  his father to let go of the fact that Susie is dead. I found this very shocking after there little talk. The father had a heart attack. After he was in the hospital the grandmother contacted his wife which is her daughter to tell her what happened to her husband and next thing you know the wife is flying all the way back to see her husband. They ended up feeling the way they first felt towards each other when they first met. Lindsey is engaged to Samuel they both finished college together and they still like each other Samuel is close to Lindsey's family. Mr.Harvey still has not been caught and still is killing girls. There was one point in the book where Ruth and Susie switched places with Ruth.  And Susie ended up with being with Ray the guy she liked when she was alive and he liked her also. Ray realized that he wasn't with Ruth anymore that Ruth and Susie some how ended up switching spots. It still remains a mystery of how that happened. I liked the book but I did not like the ending to be honest. I expected something more better then just everyone lived happily ever after. The killer did not get cuaght and Susie's family is back together.

"In Connecticut on September 10, 1976, a hunter o his way back to his car saw something shiny on the ground. My Pennsylvania keystone charm. Then he say that the ground nearby had been partially dug up by a bear. Exposed by the bear were the unmistakable bones of a child's foot." (Sebold 220)
Reaction
The police realized that Mr. Harvey is the one who killed Susie but by the time the police realized that it is him he already left and they can't seem to trace him. But the thing that I want to know is why Mr. Harvey leave another girl that he killed bracelet behind ? Like he gets away
with a lot of things he dose like get away with the girls he killed. That means his strategies are also good. Why would he leave Susie's bracelet behind like that makes the police now have a lead. It seems like  something is fishy. Does he want to be caught?

The Lovely Bones pgs. 100-200

Summary
I feel so bad for Susie's dad because he knows that something is suspicious about Mr.Harvey. It is so fustrating to know that you know your daughters killer but you have no evidence that he killed your daughter. He meaning Susie's dad has been calling the police a lot and it got to the point where one of the dectectives had to tell him to stop calling. To me that wolud get me mad like that's my kid who died and I want to find her killer. I am going to do everything I can to help you guys and you tell me to stop calling. Does the police actually think he is going to sit there and just wait. Thing is since this book id full of surprises Susie's dad ends up seeing this light and thinks it's Mr. Harvey and takes action. But bad thing is it was not Mr. Harvey it was two teenagers playing a game. Then later on in the book Lindesy snuck into Mr. Harvey's house and got a drawing from a sketchbook. That drawing is a drawing of where Mr.harvey killed Susie. And the police angain noticed something suspicious about Mr.Harvey like the way he was "happy" to go with the police and answer some questions. People usually get nervoius or start getting scared. There was another part in the book where Susie is describing all the other girls that Mr. Harvey  killed and how he killed them. There was one girl that he tried to touch but she screamed instead and he just panicked and killed her. That remined me of the book Of Mice and Men when one of the charters tried to touch a womens dress but she ended up screaming so he killed her insted.

Qoute
"Why they didn't hear something, see something. I mean surely the girl screamed." (Seblod 193)

Reaction
That is the worst thin that you can say to the police at the moment. When he said this I was in shock I was like oh o he did not just say that. Even the word surely means of course she would scream in that sentnce. It seems very starnge in a way to say that to the police. I want to see this guy get busted so bad. Because he killed a lot of girls that were younger or even older than him. And in heaven Susie meets other girls that got killed by him.

The Lovely Bones By: Alice Sebold pg. 1-100

Summary
This book gets your attention from the second second. It just grabs your attention in a flash. It's about a girl who got killed by one of her neighbors. She was walking in a corn field some day and Mr. Harvey say her and ending up tricking Susie( the girl that died) into following him and end up being in a room alone with him. He raped her and cut up her body into pieces. So now she is in heaven looking down at her family. Her sister Lindsey, her brother Buckley, and her mom and dad. In the book there was one part where the cops had no clue who was her killer , they did not have any leads. But one day a dog was running to his or her owner and has caring Susie's ARM!!!!! Can you imagine that you see your dog running to you and in his or her mouth you see a human being's arm. I do think Lindsey is making the wrong choices about her sisters death. Like why would you tell your parents to leave you alone all the time and give them attitude and tell them you want to handle all of these things going on by yourself. If I had a chance to talk to Lindsey I would say everyone is in the same boat. So stop acting like your sisters death is mainly hurting you it is hurting everyone the same way. Try to act a little happy around your parents or do something that will get their mind off of  the situation.

" My name was Salmon, like the fish; first name Susie. I was Fourteen when I was murdered on December6, 1973." (Sebold 5)

Reaction
When i first read this thought the first sentence was a typical introduction But when it started talking about being murdered. I was like what. That's what I mean in the beginning when I said the book grabs your attention fast. Because that sentence was like a bomb thrown at you. It just came out of the blue. But I like it, it makes it seem like the book has more surprises to come. And more surprises did actually happen.
